\"Milk\" gets SAG nods for Penn, Brolin and cast...
Excuse me while I fall asleep at my desk! Got up at 5:15 a.m. and had to jam out of the house to get to the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood for the 6 a.m. announcement of the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. I was excited when the cast of "Milk" announced in the outstanding cast category and Sean Penn and Josh Brolin were nominated in the individual acting categories.
I had to zip over to the newsroom and write a story in less than two hours and here it is:

SAG Awards: Actors Lovin’ Other Actors
Kate Winslet, nominaton hog.
The Screen Actors Guild announced today the nominations for their annual awards. So yes, it’s actors voting on other actors’ performances. It’s that simple. I guess because of that, even if there is a strike, the awards ceremony, scheduled for January 25th, will go on. If there is a strike, then the awards will probably be used to some degree to explain to the viewing audience…if there is one…why they’re on strike. Good luck.

With one or two exceptions, this is what your acting
categories will most likely resemble at the Academy Awards. The
Screen
Actors Guild has released its list of what matters most in film and
television acting for 2008, and there are only a couple selections that are
slight surprises. More on that in a second.
Doubt took home the most nominations, which
isn't a big shock. After all, it has three supporting roles and one unbelievable
lead performance, and because it's based on a stage play,

The media world rarely pays attention, but The Golden Globes nominations often serve as a better predictor of Emmy success than Oscar -- recognizing new programs and performers with a speed that usually eludes the Emmy academy. In years past, that meant actors such as 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin and Mad Men's Jon Hamm got a Globe nod before Emmy learned their name. When nominations were revealed this morning, struggling dramas such as HBO's in Treatment and True Blood nabbed major acting nods, despite sometimes

'Doubt' Leads Screen Actors Guild With Five Nominations
Now, we're talking. Finally some real (and concrete) love for "Doubt." Forget the critic awards, the Globes, etc. Anyone worth their salt in Oscar predictions knows the closest true bellwether to Oscar nominations are the guild awards and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has just announced their nominees. Topping out the list in John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt," with five nominations including Best Ensemble (often considered the precursor to Best Picture), Best Actress (Meryl Streep), Best Supporting Actor (Phil

The Hollywood Foreign Press announced their Golden Globe nominations and they must be getting as old as the Emmy and Oscar nominators. Usually the Globes can be counted on for some fresh picks but this year the choices are pretty straight-laced and staid. Especially since all the critics awards are pouring out and the love seems to be spreading all over for outside-the-box fare (listed all at the bottom). Here's the main Golden Globe nominations:BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMAThe Curious Case of Benjamin Butto
