And Now For the Evening Gown Portion of the Competition

Babble - 7th Oct 2008

Sarah Palin: Well, we've seen the swimsuit portion of the evening, AND the talent portion. Now it's time for Sarah Palin in the evening gown competition from Miss Alaska 1984. Join us as we go back to yesteryear, when we were jamming to the smooth sounds of Michael Jackson (when he was still black), Foreigner, and Journey. Big hair, parachute pants, and pretty moose-hunting flute players. Oh, my. Look at that lovely dress. Cannot WAIT for the interview portion. Something tells me she won't be telling us what she reads.

Bigot Bridget Bardot Mouths Off About Sarah Palin
Bridget Bardot, who rarely comes out of her house, is coming out to attack GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin. The actress (and bigot) says in an open letter to Palin: "I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world. By denying the responsibility of man in global warming, by advocating gun rights and making statements that are disconcertingly stupid, you are a disgrace to women and you alone represent a terrible threat, a true environmental catastrophe." Bardot continues

Sarah Palin Was Annoyed. Oh, THAT'S Why She Sucked
Here's a little snippet of an interview Sarah Palin did with Fox News. She responds to why she did so crappy in those Katie Couric interviews. It wasn't because she's stupid. She was mad. Re-Thinking Your Sarah Palin Halloween Costume [Not Afraid To Be Servicey]
Everyone—even 6'5" dudes—is planning on being Sarah Palin for Halloween this year. We called up a Ricky's costume store, looking to see if they carried Palin costumes or at least had noticed an uptick in glasses-and-brunette-wig sales. "Who?" Sarah Palin. "Sarah... um, oh. No." But had the sales clerk noticed people buying more brown wigs and glasses? "Well, we got Obama masks, John McCain masks, Bill Clinton masks." But don't just throw on a wig and glasses—there are so many angles on dr

Wake Up, The Debate's Over!
Program note: We may be a bit heavy on debate discussion today, although you should know that our own opinion of the event is pretty much in line with the succinct judgment Matt Drudge delivers above. Our quick impression: Both sides were so happy with the first debate they decided to pretty much do the whole thing all over again, but with different stage directions. John McCain made two excellent choices, both of which proved our pre-debate predictions wrong: he decided to leave the nasty guilt-by-asso

Maverick family to McCain: No way are you one of us!
He’s a maverick.” “He’s the consummate maverick.” “We’re a team of mavericks.” - You’ve all heard it time and again in recent weeks as Republican John McCain and fresh-faced running mate Gov. Sarah Palin slap on the maverick label to differentiate themselves from the GOP herd corralled inside the beltway in Washington. But the New York Times reported on Sunday that the real Mavericks - a storied south Texas family with a long tradition in progressive politics - are not too happy about wha

Debate #3: It's Better To Fade Away Than To Burn Out
Maybe it would be better if Cranky McCrankypants just disappeared for a while, and reemerged a few days (or even a week or two) from now to swoop in with some brilliant attack ad that's effective and actually warranted, unlike everything else he's been for months.Seriously, think about it: it worked for him after his staff began bailing on him in the primary runup; then he did some soul searching, stripped everything away that wasn't working, and bit by bit, built himself back into a winne

'Saturday Night Live' Brings it This October
After a so far sterling (and very politically relevant) season, Saturday Night Live is hell-bent on taking advantage of its momentum with a packed line-up this October.  SNL's first three episodes saw increased interest on the November elections, particularly on Tina Fey's great impression of the GOP vice-presidential bet Sarah Palin.  Her interview with Katie Couric, who was also masterly done by Amy Poehler, has made the rounds on blogs and video-streaming sites. Throughout Saturday Night Liv

Sarah Palin Wants To Be On SNL?
Sarah Palin and the McCain staff are trying to figure out how to respond to the spot-on impersonation done by Tina Fey on SNL the last three weeks. Do you think that she should respond at all? The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a Palinesque tweak to Tina Fey's American Express commercials may be in the works.Sarah Palin may also appear on NBC's "Weekend Update" as early as Thursday night.  I can't wait to see what the next SNL Palin skit will be. They have been pretty funny

Newsweek PALIN!
PHOTO! Here’s a picture of the Newsweek Cover this month of Sarah Palin. Newsweek says Sarah Palin won the VP Debate! Palin’s Newsweek Magazine Cover says “She’s one of the Folk” but doesn’t stop there. Newsweek starts by saying Palin won her debate. “Yes, she won the debate by not imploding. But governing requires knowledge, and mindless populism is just that—mindless.” Quickly the article jumps to recite the Katie Couric interview within the first 10

Katie Couric Vexed Sarah Palin
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would quickly like to address some misconceptions you might have gotten by watching her on the TV recently. "Evidently, there's some interest in what I've been readin' lately," she intoned yesterday in Florida. "And I think it comes from—it's a result of—a probably less than successful interview that I had recently with kinda mainstream media." The mere mention of the "mainstream media" causes the crowed to boo vociferously. But Palin says she's OK with her perfor

Tina Fey Gets Book Deal
Yay! Not only is Liz Lemon returning to television, but now 30 Rock creator and star Tina Fey has just signed a book deal with Little, Brown Book Group. It's no surprise that the project was pitched as more of a comedic tome rather than a memoir per se, with Fey garnering laughs for her portrayal of Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. No Palin On Saturday Night Live
For those of you who were looking forward to seeing Governor Sarah Palin lampoon her nemesis and expert mimic, Tina Fey, on Weekend Update Thursday, the special primetime election edition of Saturday Night Live which premieres this week, we have some bad news for you. It's not happening. SNL head writer Seth Meyers spoke with Newsday's television blog The TV Zone and put the story to rest, for now: "Of those specific rumors [that Sarah Palin will appear], there's no truth. We do have an open door poli

Sarah Palin might spoof Tina Fey spoofing her on "Saturday Night Live"
In a move that may prove way too meta for the Joe Six Packs and hockey moms of this country, rumors are swirling that Sarah Palin will be appearing on Saturday Night Live to spoof Tina Fey, who, as you know, was single-handedly responsible for reigniting the show's popularity by playing Palin. Is your head exploding yet? What will happen if the two bespectacled giants do end up meeting at the offices of 30 Rock? Will the mavericky pit bull in lipstick approach her doppelganger with her trademark folksy

Palin unlikely to appear on 'SNL' show
Oh darn. It looks like Sarah Palin will not be showing up on tomorrow night's SNL special to face-off with Tina Fey. That's what SNL's Seth Meyers told Newsday's Verne Gay yesterday afternoon in a phone call. "Of those specific rumors, there's no truth. We do have an open door policy, but there's nothing specific yet, but our window of opportunity is before the election. We'd love to have McCain and Obama on again, too. Our doors are always open." The problem, he says, is "the schedule. They'

ABC Draws Most Debate Viewers
ABC’s win streak with debate coverage was extended to three Tuesday night when the network averaged 12.8 million viewers through 90 minutes of debate and a half-hour of analysis of the second of three face-offs between presidential candidates Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama. According to preliminary national data from Nielsen Media Research, second-place NBC averaged 9.2 million viewers through the debate and its analysis. CBS averaged 9 million viewers from 9-11 p.m. ET with the debate and ana

Black Congressmen Declare Racism In Palin’s Rhetoric
As the McCain campaign ratchets up the intensity of its attacks on Barack Obama, some black elected officials are calling the tactics desperate, unseemly and racist. “They are trying to throw out these codes,” said Representative Gregory Meeks, a Democrat from New York. “He’s ‘not one of us?’” Mr. Meeks said, referring to a comment Sarah Palin made at a campaign rally on Oct. 6 in Florida. “That’s racial. That’s fear. They know they can’t win on the issues, so the last resort they hav

Bonnie Fuller Has a Lot to Say This Election
Just like it is weird, but increasingly common, to get your political analysis on television from The View, so is it to see former Us Weekly and Star editor Bonnie Fuller giving debate feedback, but that is just the crazy world we live in, so let's run with it. After she finished Twittering about how Sarah Palin is Annie Oakley (Annie Oakley is now the de facto reference to any woman candidate), the former editrix moved over to Huffpost to give her 2 cents on why John McCain should be worried about Sa

No One, Not Even the Next President of the United States, Gets In the Way of Brokaw's Script
Funny thing with the town hall style debate — the candidates have a tendency of roaming all over the place, keeping camera operators alert, as the candidates lose track of time. That left moderator Tom Brokaw to ask, remind, plead with the nominees to stick to the rules. Brokaw reminded Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama three times to stick to the rules — rules their campaigns came up with. But 40 minutes into the debate, Brokaw gave in, saying, "since the rules are pretty loose here, I w

In a Stifling Town Hall Debate, the Tie Goes to the Front-Runner
There are two possible ways in which the Oct. 8 presidential debate will be interpreted by most of the media over the next several days – and both are favorable to Barack Obama. The most likely outcome is a general press consensus that the town hall forum was roughly a draw; that both Obama and John McCain had their moments, but that neither delivered a memorable line or introduced any kind of game-changing wrinkle into the mix. This, obviously, would constitute good news for Obama, who entered the debat

John McCain And Barack Obama Slug It Out In Aggressive Second Debate On Economy, Foreign Policy
Neither candidate was afraid to throw a zinger during town-hall-style matchup. By Gil Kaufman Views 691 This was more like it. If you thought the first debate between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama was more like a polite disagreement on the economy and foreign policy, Tuesday night's (October 7) second showdown on those same topics found the Senate colleagues staring each other down for a tense 90 minutes during which they tried to draw very
