“Benjamin Button” took decades to reach big screen
By Alex Ben Block LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - It's a pity that the best parts of life come at the beginning, the worst parts at the end. That notion of Mark Twain's -- as related to F. Scott Fitzgerald by his editor, Maxwell Perkins -- was the genesis of Fitzgerald's 1922 short story "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and, in turn, the genesis of the acclaimed film that finally opens on Christmas Day after decades in development. When Fitzgerald conceived his fantastical tale of a man who ages ba

SAG Awards: Actors Lovin’ Other Actors
Kate Winslet, nominaton hog.  The Screen Actors Guild announced today the nominations for their annual awards. So yes, it’s actors voting on other actors’ performances. It’s that simple. I guess because of that, even if there is a strike, the awards ceremony, scheduled for January 25th, will go on. If there is a strike, then the awards will probably be used to some degree to explain to the viewing audience…if there is one…why they’re on strike. Good luck. (And let̵

Will 'Wall-E' be nominated for best picture at the Oscars?
Four films now look like good bets for best-picture nominations in the Oscar derby: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and "Slumdog Millionaire." What will get that fifth slot? Most Oscarologists focus on "The Dark Knight," "Doubt" and "Revolutionary Road."

'Doubt' Leads Screen Actors Guild Nominees
With one or two exceptions, this is what your acting categories will most likely resemble at the Academy Awards. The Screen Actors Guild has released its list of what matters most in film and television acting for 2008, and there are only a couple selections that are slight surprises. More on that in a second. Doubt took home the most nominations, which isn't a big shock. After all, it has three supporting roles and one unbelievable lead performance, and because it's based on a stage play,

Movie Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Based on the short story of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an archetype for award season films.

Where is the love for 5 of my favorite performances of the year?
The 2008 awards season has produced numerous magnificent performances. Many came in high-profile films like "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Doubt," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and "Revolutionary Road," and have been honored in recent weeks with Golden Globe and SAG Awards nominations. Some of my favorites, though, came in smaller films that seemed to slip largely under the radar, preventing the actors from attracting the attention necessary to

LAYOFFS BE DAMNED! Oscar Campaign Spending From Reverse Into Overdrive
UPDATE: Jeez, but it's bewildering why Paramount took out 7 pages of full-page ads in The New York Times today for Revolutionary Road.
