Rob Brown throws touchdown with 'The Express'
Playing a character drawn from real life can be a daunting task for any actor, but it didn't faze Rob Brown. Not when the 24-year-old famously snagged his first role as a teenager eight years ago - tag-teaming with Sean Connery in "Finding Forrester" - by auditioning on a lark.
In his latest film, "The Express," co-starring Dennis Quaid, Brown plays gridiron great Ernie Davis, the Syracuse University player who not only shattered college football records but also its color barrier in the late 1950s. Davis

Win Big As 'The Express' Dashes Into Theaters This Friday
Based on a true story, The Express follows the extraordinary life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. His fight for equality and respect forever changed the face of American sports, and his story continues to inspire new generations.
Raised in poverty in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis hurdled social and economic obstacles to become one of the greatest running backs in college football history. Under the guidance of legendary
Dennis Quaid and Rob Brown go aboard 'The Express'
Sports biodramas generally take one of two tacks: gauzily sentimental or scrappy tale of struggle. "The Express" runs the thin line between the two and, to its benefit, more often than not hits the first mark. But that's also the source of the film's problems, since Ernie Davis' historically important years as a college football great were built on adversity.
Beginning with a few scenes of his boyhood in Uniontown, Pa., where his loving grandfather (Charles S. Dutton) emphasizes the importance of Jackie Ro

Rob Brown Interview, The Express
MoviesOnline sat down with Rob Brown to talk about his new film, “The Express,” based on the extraordinary life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Brown) whom fans knew as The Elmira Express. In America in the late 1950s and early 60s, he became a symbol for a country grapping to move past its long-held views of people of color. His unprecedented journey unfolded as he shattered not only sports records, but also perceptions of what was possible for an African-American at the time. Davis&rsquo

The Express Review
The Express tells the story of Ernie Davis (played by Finding Forrester's Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. A native of Pennsylvania's coal mining country, Davis was a star high school running back when he was approached by none other than college superstar-turned-NFL pro Jim Brown (Darrin DeWitt Henson) to play for his alma mater Syracuse University and coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid).
Like Brown before him, Ernie encounters racism at Syracuse on the gridiron -- f
They didn't win the Heisman
Here's a look at some great football players (college and/or pro) who didn't win the Heisman Trophy. The list is pretty long, so we limited the number and excluded those who didn't play for Division I teams (Jerry Rice and Walter Payton come to mind). Also note that Red Grange (Illinois) and Jim Thorpe (Carlisle) played the game before the Heisman came into existence.

The Big Picture Interview with Dennis Quaid
We know the name, of course, but
Dennis Quaid
has consistently flown under the radar despite a career that would make the
overwhelming majority of actors jealous. He's been in a few Best Picture
nominees (Breaking Away, The Right Stuff, and Traffic),
some big hits (Innerspace, The Rookie, Something to Talk About,
and Vantage Point), and he looks like he's had a barrel of fun along the
way in a 30-year career filled with memorable lead and supporting roles.
