Ain't Nothin' but a 'Hounddog'! ...Poster. For the Movie 'Hounddog'
Hounddog is getting a lot of publicity for containing a scene in which Dakota Fanning gets R'ed, but let's not forget that it also contains Dakota Fanning's shiny, wax-sealed face. Just a thin coating gives her career an extra six weeks of post-puberty shelf life.

Hounddog / ** (R)
"Hounddog" (R, 102 minutes). Dakota Fanning takes an impressive step forward in her career, but that's about the only good thing about "Hounddog." The reigning child star, now 14, handles a painful role with great assurance, even in a rape scene. But her character is surrounded by a swamp of worn-out backwoods Southern clichés than can't be rescued even by the other accomplished actors in the cast. With David Morse, Piper Laurie, Robin Wright Penn and Afemo Omilami.
Rating: Two stars.

An Unspeakable Act: 'Hounddog'
Known colloquially as "The Dakota Fanning Rape Movie" since its premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival, Deborah Kampmeier's "Hounddog" arrives in theaters Friday after a long distribution struggle with a handicap that it just can't shake. Young Ms. Fanning plays Lewellen, a motherless 12-year-old growing up poor in the Deep South circa the mid-1950s. Living with her bitter grandmother (Piper Laurie) and disturbingly callous father (David Morse), Lewellen distracts herself from the...

*It's rural Alabama in the late Fifties, and little Lewellen (Dakota Fanning) is feeling pangs of sexual awakenings. Unfortunately, the prepubescent adolescent is being raised by her Bible-thumping grandmother (Piper Laurie) whose repressive rules has the curious tomboy spending most of her free time out of the house.

Her parents and everyone on her payroll is not doing an adequate job. She looks like she hasn’t brushed her teeth in eight years. She is a major talent and she’s not goin’ anywhere. She’s that good. She is finally all growed up and poised to be a knockout. In a few years she’s gonna be rockin’ the most elegant gown

Dakota Fanning Is Sickeningly Perfect; Nobody Knows My Name
So last night I was invited to the premiere of Hounddog, the film that caused a lot of controversy a while back because it features a Dakota Fanning rape scene. After watching the movie, I can safely say that the fuss was overblown, but that's probably obvious at this point.
On to the good stuff: The red carpet! Where my spot along the velvet ropes was labeled "Whittle Little, Jossip.com." Awesome.
