Mickey Rourke: It's a film that has done nothing but rack up the rave reviews since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Whether it be kudos for star Mickey Rourke or director Darren Aronofsky, people just can't get enough of THE WRESTLER. Finally, we the people get a glimpse of the film as Fox Searchlight has released the trailer. It will be in theaters with MILK but you don't have to wait that long - you can watch it right now. And while we're at it, how good is that Bruce Springsteen song? Just fits perfectly...

'The Wrestler' Trailer Flying Elbows Onto I-Net
Man, Mickey Rourke is hard to look at. In this trailer, when he says he's "a broken down piece of meat," he is not kidding. I recommend only looking at his face by poking a pinhole in a box and letting his shadow form on a paper plate (instructions). Despite that, this looks really good, even though the combination of sad images/dialogue and depressing Bruce Springsteen song make you want to kill yourself (or let Mickey Rourke kill himself). The best part is when he emerges from the back of a van, and the g

mickey rourke is 'the wrestler'
good evening! oh i love a good comeback and so does hollywood - actor Mickey Rourke at age 56 might be on the brink of one - his new flick the wrestler (directed by the incredible Darren Aronofsky) has oscar buzz written all over it - how wild would it be to have mr. Rourke nominated as best actor?!? oh i love those academy award wildcards & upsets - which are few and far between - playing the role of washed up wrestler 'randy "the ram" robinson' must be an acting dream come true for him! gosh - he used to

NYFF '08 | Aronofsky, Rourke Talk "Wrestler," Folman "Waltzes" With New York
Wednesday afternoon at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York marked a big day for the 46th New York Film Festival. "The Wrestler" Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei and producer Scott Franklin joined director Darren Aronofsky to discuss the film after its first screening for New York press and industry. The movie, acquired shortly after its North American debut last month at the Toronto fest, will close the NYFF on October 12th. Meanwhile, Ari Folman's acclaimed animated documentary, "Waltz With Bashir" made its

Finally, The Trailer For ‘The Wrestler’
Fox Searchlight has given Variety exclusive dibs on the trailer to “The Wrestler,” the Darren Aronofsky-directed film that everyone is touting as the comeback for actor Mickey Rourke. And with good reason, he’s excellent in it and very-deserving of the Oscar. We love this trailer too, it starts out rockin’ with Quiet Riot’s “Bang Your Head (Metal Health Will Drive You Mad),” but quickly moves to the personal, somber tone of the film which is about shame, loss, strug

NYFF 2008: "The Wrestler."
Mickey Rourke is one magnificent wreck. "The Wrestler" holds off from giving you the full-frontal of his face for a while, as if he were the monster in a low-budget horror flick. When it does finally creep around, you see misplaced tautness, semi-mobile features, starlet lips, an overall impression of carved putty. One of the film's visual jokes is that Rourke's character, faded pro wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson, is a shambling but still formidable hunk of meat, but he's aging in the style of a South Be

The week on IFC.com: Mickey Rourke, soundtracks and post-Iraq road movies.
This blog should be back to its regular self next week or so. In the meantime, a round-up of what's been happening on the rest of IFC.com:       + Review: "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" - Matt Singer wonder why, for a movie that supposedly revolves around music, no one in this teen rom-com seems to like it all that much.       + Video: "The Wrestler" at the New York Film Festival - Mickey Rourke, Darren Aronofsky and Marisa Tomei face the

The Wrestler Trailer Includes Springsteen's Song Of The Same Name
Because the Boss is all about manly sports these days, the trailer for Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler features a broken-faced (and spirited) Mickey Rourke with really bad hair, Marisa Tomei as the stripper with a heart of gold, Evan Rachel Wood as the estranged daughter, and a sad sad new Springsteen song. Outside the soundtrack, "The Wrestler"'s a Working On A Dream bonus track. Posted at 10:19 AM in Video Tags: Bruce Springsteen | Evan Rachel Wood | Mickey Rourke | The Wrestler

Mickey Rourke is an Old Broken Down Piece of Meat in The Wrestler Trailer
I had an inkling that when I began seeing images from Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” that this thing had potential to be as good as, say, Clint Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby”, the last “tough guy” movie that made me feel all sorts of unmanly things that manly man aren’t supposed to feel. After playing Marv in “Sin City” and now this, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Mickey Rourke is just now hitting his stride as an actor

Movie Preview: The Wrestler
I've been swatting away the buzzings of "Oscar watch" and "best film of the year" in regard to indie drama The Wrestler for a while now, just waiting until I could see a trailer and hopefully understand what all the fuss is about. The film stars Mickey Rourke (whose "astonishing performance" here has some calling him a "comeback kid") as an aging professional wrestler with a ton of regrets. He starts to try and take control of his life, however, when he befriends an exotic dancer (Marisa Tomei) and attempts

‘The Wrestler’ Trailer: Mickey Rourke’s Oscar Campaign Mounts a Comeback
Tagline: "With a little luck, this could be my ticket back on top." Translation: Real-life parallel alert. Verdict: Oscar buzz for Mickey Rourke's big comeback seems to have plateaued a bit lately, so now seems like a pretty good time to release the trailer for The Wrestler, both to re-hype the film and to give us a small taste before the movie comes out in a month and it's only mentioned in connection with Rourke's award bid. Anyway, it was already evident from the movie stills and Rourke’s Wikip

Here is the Preview for ‘The Wrestler’
Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Wrestler’ is getting all kinds of good attention these days, and it should be because it looks like an incredible film. It looks like Mickey Rourke could get nominated for an Oscar. the guy looks like he gives the performance of his life in this movie. I really want to see this movie. You must watch this trailer. It gives you a little taste of what looks like will be a great movie. Back in the late ’80s, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) wa

Blazin’ Trailer: The Wrestler
It’s been a long time coming, but The Wrestler trailer is here at last, and it’ll give you some indication why every critic and member of the public who has already seen the film has started buzzing about Oscars. Darren Aronofsky’s film sees Mickey Rourke play Randy “The Ram” Robinson, a wrestler who was big in the 1980s but now ekes out a living at small shows and conventions. A regular at a strip club, he has a quasi-friendship with dancer Cassidy (Marisa Tomei), who encourag

'Wrestler' grips NY Film Festival
Film News: Film takes physical, emotional toll on Rourke -- The Mickey Rourke comeback campaign alighted on the New York Film Festival with "The Wrestler" on Wednesday. The thesp choked up at one point during a post-screening news conference as he was asked about the similarities between the down-and-out grappler he plays in the Darren Aronofsky film and his own career.

First Look at Mickey Rourke's 'Wrestler'
The buzz and accolades lining up for Mickey Rourke's turn in 'The Wrestler' have been nonstop since it debuted at several film festivals, but there's been nothing for the general public to see ... until now. The first trailer for 'The Wrestler' has hit the web, giving moviegoers a glimpse of what to expect from Rourke's much-praised turn as a struggling professional wrestler going through the motions. The film, directed by Darren Aronofsky ('Pi,' 'The Fountain), is set to be released in January.

IFC News Podcast #97: Notable Big Screen Comebacks
By Matt Singer and Alison Willmore Who would have guessed that Mickey Rourke would be hailed the comeback of the year, with his role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" getting critical acclaim from all comers? It's been a tough road for the actor/former boxer, and he brings every bit of wear and tear to the film, which is all the better for it. In honor of Rourke, on this week's IFC News podcast we look at other actors who've faded from the spotlight only to make great comebacks, and a few who never manag

The Wrestler trailer surprises
I have to admit I've been rather sceptical about The Wrestler, although on paper it has an interesting set of ingredients, Darren Aronofsky, Mickey Rourke, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei, but the idea of a has been wrestler making one last attempt at a comeback wasn't really grabbing me. This trailer has though. It's done something totally different, and through the music and glimpses of Rourke's emotional performance, it actually got to me. These days of course I'm feel

The Wrestler Looks As Great As It Does Sad
Too sad! Actually, the quotes are way sadder than the actual trailer. All that "Witness the resurrection of Mickey Rourke" and "Harmonic convergence of player and part that happens once in a blue moon" stuff. Yeah, the harmonic convergence of sad player and only slightly sadder part. This movie isn't going to win any Academy Awards for makeup. Dude actually looks like that. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Mickey Rourke is extraordinarily capable of playing a demolished cipher of overwhelming hu

The Wrestler Premiere At NY Film Festival
The Wrestler brought out quite a few celebs during its presentation at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. Darren Aronofsky, Rachel Weisz, Evan Rachel Wood, Mickey Rourke,  Marisa Tomei, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber all attended this portion of the 46th New York Film Festival last night. Can we talk about Evan? She doesn't look so goth anymore. Something has changed hasn't it? Wonder if she is still dating Marilyn?? Happy Friday, everyone! Right now please enjoy these headlines: - Sorry, fans: ABC has decided not to order additional episodes of Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone or Dirty Sexy Money. - The Hollywood Reporter has an update on an Arrested Development movie, which really sounds like

'The Wrestler' Trailer: Can You Smell What the Rourke is Cookin'?
Here's a brand new trailer for The Wrestler, the film that many people believe will earn Mickey Rourke an Academy Award nomination. It's directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream), and co-stars Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. If you haven't heard about the film, Rourke plays a pro wrestler at the tail end of his career pushing for one more run in the spotlight. Whatchoo gonna do when Trailer Addict runs wild on you?!? The Wrestler opens in limited release on December

Darren Aronofsky's Early Career Comeback [Things We Actually Like]
After slogging through The Fountain, a strenuous mindfuck dirge about death and time travel and Ponce de León (sort of?), and watching its resounding failure at the box office, it was easy to think that the film's writer/director/envisioner Darren Aronofsky might never be trusted with a film again. And certainly the exciting director of Pi and Requiem for a Dream's next effort, The Wrestler, is significantly scaled back from the tens-of-millions of dollars fountain of youth blunderbuss, but it's proving t
